The Colorado Avalanche are adding depth before the upcoming NHL Trade Deadline
NEW YORK, NY. (Fish Sports) - With the 2021 NHL Trade Deadline quickly approaching (Monday, April 12th, 2021), many teams have been adding depth for a playoff run.
One of those top teams is the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs are currently 1st in the Honda West division with 58 Points.
The Avs currently have the highest positive goal differential in the league as well as adding goal scoring to their top-notch defensive game.
The first big acquisition the Avs made prior to this year's trade deadline was reacquiring Defenseman Patrik Nemeth from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a 2022 4th Round Draft Pick. Nemeth will add to the defensive depth the Avs can carry into the 2021 NHL Playoffs. Nemeth will also play on the Penalty Kill, allowing star Defenseman Sam Girard and Ryan Graves to keep their legs fresh.
The second trade Colorado made was for Goalie, Devan Dubnyk from the San Jose Sharks, in exchange for Defenseman Greg Pateryn and a 2021 5th Round Draft Pick. Dubnyk will add backup depth for the Avs while last year's star backup Pavel Francouz is on IR, most likely for the rest of the season. So far this season with the Sharks, Dubnyk has played in 17 games (3-9-2) with a .898 Save Percentage. Even though these statistics look bad for Dubnyk, he has not had the defense in front of him that the Avs provide their goaltenders.
It should be another entertaining trade deadline this season and we'll be back later this week to recap it!
