January 15th, 2021 NHL Recap
NEW YORK, NY. (Fish Sports) - January 15th, 2021, marked the third night of the 2021 NHL season. We have seen some great games so far, tonight though, we saw another hat-trick and one of the highest-scoring games in the last few seasons.
We go to Ottawa, Canada to start the night where the Toronto Maple Leafs faced the Ottawa Senators. Rookie Tim Stutzle made his NHL debut and registered a shot on net. The Senators took this matchup, winning 5 to 3 over Toronto. The 3rd star of the game went to John Tavares of the Maple Leafs who had a goal and an assist. The 2nd star of the game went to Ottawa's Thomas Chabot, who had a goal and a +4 on his line. The 1st star of the game went to Ottawa's Brady Tkachuk who had a goal, 2 assists, and a +3 in the win.
Heading out to Tampa Bay, they start the season off strong scoring 10 total goals in their first two games of the season over the Chicago Blackhawks. Tampa beat Chicago 5 to 2 in this one. The 3rd star of the game went to Victor Hedman who had a +1 line score, the 2nd star of the game went to Blake Coleman who had a goal and an assist. The 1st star of the game was awarded to Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy who had 35 saves on 37 shots.
Heading now to the City of Brotherly Love. The Pittsburg Penguins faced-off against the Philadelphia Flyers. Philly took this one by a score of 5 to 2. Philly starts the season 2 and 0 while the Pens drop their first two games to the Flyers. The 3rd star of the game went to Oskar Lindblom who had a goal on the night, the 2nd star was awarded to Philly goalie Carter Hart who made 31 saves on 33 shots. The 1st star was awarded to Travis Konecny who had the season's second hat-trick, along with an assist on the night.
Heading up to Buffalo, the Washington Capitals faced the Buffalo Sabres. Washington took the game 2 to 1 to start the year 2 and 0 while Buffalo falls to 0 and 2. The 3rd star of the game was awarded to Buffalo Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen who had a goal, the 2nd star went to Lars Eller of Washington who had a +1 on his line. The 1st star of the game went to Jakub Vrana who had a goal.
The most exciting game of the night was in Denver, Colorado at the Ball Center where the St. Louis Blues faced-off with our Colorado Avalanche. The first period was scoreless, then the firestorm of the Avalanche offense took off scoring 8 total goals, 4 goals in the 2nd Period, and 4 goals in the 3rd Period. Avalanche Captain Gabe Landeskog scored two goals in the game, hitting his 200th career goal in the process. Forward Nate MacKinnon had a goal and two assists with five shots on net. Newly acquired Avs Defenseman, Devon Toews scored a goal and an assist, marking his first point as a member of the club. Colorado Goaltender Philipp Grubauer completed the shut-out with 21 saves on the 21 shots thrown on net by the Blues.
